Eclipse Community Event MarchOn March 28, 2024, in expectation of the total solar eclipse on April 8, Hill College will host Wonder & Awe: Why Everyone Should Experience a Total Eclipse with Eclipse Chaser Leticia Ferrer.

Ferrer, a Dallas-based author, podcast host, and eclipse expert, will share her experiences and knowledge about the joy, wonder, and awe of a total eclipse. This year’s event will be her 21st time observing a total solar eclipse. Over the years, she has traveled to seven continents and six oceans to view this cosmic phenomenon.

Hill College faculty members Dr. Anthony Ololo and Dr. Sagar Paudel will also guide participants through proper eclipse viewing techniques, including how to use a telescope and pinhole cameras.

The 2024 total solar eclipse will occur over North America and Texas is in what experts call the “path of totality.” A total eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the earth and sun, completely covering the sun’s surface along a narrow path. The eclipse is set to hit Hillsboro at 1:38 p.m. on Monday, April 8.
